Microorganisms are the most diverse and abundant organisms on Earth. They come in all shapes and sizes. Through the cycling of elements, for instance methane, they impact biogeochemical cycles in various oxic and anoxic environments. Our research is primarily focused on the formation and oxidation of methane in agricultural soils, farm waste, caves and aquatic freshwater and marine systems like rivers and deep-sea oceans. We study the microbial communities and explore their microbial potential using a combination of microbiological, molecular and geochemical methods such as anaerobic culturing, stable isotope probing, GC/HPLC-analyses, genomic- and transcriptomic tools. MethaneC
